We accept .jpeg, .gif and .png files. Also the photos must have certain characteristics. In particular, you must: - Just be alone - Be identifiable - Do not wear sunglasses - Be in the foreground - Be smiling makes you nicer :-) - Be compliant with good manners We also reject: - Drawings and avatar - Photos taken from too far away - Photos blurry or too dark - The grimaces Do not forget that the objective is to be identified at the meeting point for returning the item! On the other hand, we are so demanding about pictures because they can appear in various parts of the website, sometimes small (particularly in mobile applications), and you always have to be clearly identifiable.
Adding a photo to your profile is very important. Being FindMyLost a website to put in direct contact those who have lost an object with its finder, it is important and reassuring to see the image of the people with whom we relate. The aim is to be able to match a face to the person with whom you chat or simply recognize each other at the meeting place.
We request to fill in a cell phone number because it is necessary, indeed essential, to arrange the meeting. The phone number is simply an extra guarantee. Phone numbers are essential to contact you easily, since our service is based on the validity and relevance of the datas and on the possibility for all our members to be able to be easily contacted when necessary.
The phone number and e-mail address are displayed to the other party only after the approval of the return.
Inserting the PayPal address on your profile will facilitate the payment of the reward from the owner, once you have returned the item.

Do not forget that you have lost your item in one of our business partners, to select that venues as place of lost.
Select the object form that most closely matches the description of your item, check out the photos and ask questions to the finder to check the characteristics of the finding.
If as search result you have got an item which corresponds to what you have lost, you can get in touch with the finder through the integrated messaging system and answer his control questions. Once answered, ask for the item by clicking on "Claim the item" You can also submit an evidence of ownership through the function “attach a file" (eg. a photo of the object in the past, a complaint document, a proof of purchase). The finder will receive an email notification about your claim request and if he deems it appropriate he will approve your request. At this point you will be able to agree the return
If you did not find what you were looking for and you want to be notified if someone will find it in the future, you can activate an alert for only 2 € and you will be notified if, in the following 90 days, someone will publish an object whose feaures correspond to the one you imputted.
After asking a series of control questions regarding the found object features via the integrated messaging system to the owner and having asked for a proof of ownership, you can approve the return by clicking on "Owner confirmation" and select the way to return it between the hand-in and shipping. It will be the owner of the item to take charge of any shipping costs.
If you are in Italy, and you haven’t return the item to the rightful owner yet, please drop it off as soon as possible to the “lost and found” office of the Municipality where you found it, in order it to be disclosed as required by law, according to articles 927 and 928 of the Civil Code. We remind you that not dropping off the item found to the Municipal Office integrates a violation of the law, punishable under Article 647, 1st paragraph of the Criminal Code. If within 12 months from the publication of the finding the rightful owner haven’t reclaimed the lost object, it will become your own property, as required by art. 929 of the Civil Code.
FindMyLost has an effective integrated messaging service. Before returning an object to the owner, we recommend to ask a series of control questions to verify that identity of the owner and the ownership of the valuable. For technological devices such as smartphones, we suggest I to ask for the apparatus IMEI or more details on it (ie. That image in the screensaver; the unlock pin; color of cover, etc.).
Offering a reward to the finder is not mandatory but is strongly recommended. Infact the finder has determined its preferences with respect to the award at the moment of the item publication (if monetary reward or no reward). It’s a good manner to thank the commitment taken by the finder offering a monetary reward. The Italian legislation also provides that the owner must pay a reward to the finder, if he requested it, of about the tenth of the market price of the item or of the monetary amount found (Art. 930 Civil Code).
FindMyLost, for handling the matter and to guarantee its community the continuity of the service, asks its users to pay a small fee, for the livelihood of the site, the app and the management team. This minimum fee is important and crucial because it allows you to get back your lost item and find the nexts. Do not be stingy ☺.
The system suggests a standard reward around 10% of the value of the object with a minimum of € 2.5. The object's market value is determined by FindMyLost according to a standard table which classify items by type/class. Here are some reasons that explain FindMyLost’s choice: 1 - The Italian legislation also provides that the owner must pay a reward to the finder, if he requested it, of about the tenth of the market price of the item or of the monetary amount found (Art. 930 Civil Code). 2 - The reward recommended by FindMyLost is calculated to find the right balance between the commitment made by the finder and the owner's needs: the finder is rewarded for the commitment made while the owner thanks the finder awarding him as an act of good manners. 3 - the reward suggested by FindMyLost can be modified upward but not under the minum of € 5. This is because the owner may want to be so polite to offer a higher amount. For precious items or if the reward calculated by the platform does not match the real value of the object, we suggest to contact our support for an appropriate evaluation.
After confirming the ownership and having received approval by the finder, you can buy the shipping through one of our partners. Our partners track the shipments. Ask the other party to show you the proof of shipping. In this way, both you and the other party will always know where the object is located and when it reaches its destination.
Our payment system freezes the amount paid until you confirm that you have received the item. If you have not received the item yet, contact us at
You'll want to pay securely through the tools provided by the platform. Only in this case, if something does go wrong, we can act quickly and reimburse you if the item is not arrived. Never pay with Postepay, bank transfer, via PayPal direct payments between you and the counterparty, cash or other payment outside of the website or App methods. All privately operated transactions between you and the other party will not be recorded by our system and therefore can not be included in the PayPal protection program.
If you're in one of these situations: • The item you received is not yours; • The finder has not approved the give-back request ; • You were not able to cancel your return request by the website or App prior to shipment; • You want to report a problem you had during the return process; • The item has been damaged during shipment. It is important that you report these types of issues through the Contacts section. Useful information: In the event of disagreement between the two parties, it will be FindMyLost team to make a decision based on the circumstances and the information available.
